Intel Project Monument Live Experience, Covent Garden

August 23, 2012 by

Remember you favourite toys as a child?  I get all nostalgic thinking about my childhood gadgets and gizmos – Tamagotchis, Polly Pockets, Dream Phone, Gameboy (which I still love), mixtapes, rainbow Slinky, my old Amstrad computer and those yappy little battery-operated dogs that squeak and do somersaults.

This month, Intel presents the Project Monument Live Experience, dedicated to all the cool stuff from years gone by.  It’s a chance to forget you’re an adult with responsibilities and bills to pay and have some fun taking a trip down memory lane with retro toys and games.  There’s also the chance to win the toy of the future.

Intel is hosting a Project Monument pop up shop from 12-4pm on Friday 24th August at Covent Garden, where you can start the Bank Holiday Weekend early and rediscover these retro toys.

Friday…

I went down to Covent Garden today with Steven to see Intel’s Project Monument Live Experience.  The crowds gathered for Intel’s Project Monument vending machine, where you type in your date of birth and a song from that year is played, followed by a surprise toy to take away.  Among the prizes were Nintendo Wiis, Xbox 360s, space hoppers, hampers filled with sweets, tamagotchis, Rubik’s Cubes and best of all, four brand new Intel Ultrabooks.

This guy just won an Intel Ultrabook!

Steven and I both won matching Rubik’s Cubes.  I can see us geeking out with a Rubik’s Cube race while watching The Big Bang Theory…

Other activities included getting a retro photo taken, playing on the Scalectrix track and bouncing around the piazza on space hoppers.  It was a fun day out, particularly for families, and some lucky folk took home some amazing gifts.
