On our honeymoon in Montauk, we hopped over to East Hampton – just 30 minutes away – for a complete change of scenery.
While Montauk is surfy and laid-back, East Hampton takes preppy chic to another level with picturesque tree-lined streets, impeccably groomed people and houses and an abundance of American flags. It has an old money feel and looks almost like a film set – everything is so tasteful and charming.
Main Street is filled with designer boutiques such as Ralph Lauren, Elie Tahari, Alice + Olivia, Milly, Club Monaco – perfect for those summer society galas.
I’d expected there to be more cafe terraces for people watching, or even some posh gelato shops, but East Hampton is actually quite low-key in that respect. Really, Ina Garten is missing a trick not re-opening her Barefoot Contessa East Hampton deli as a cafe-bistro-concept store.
For a stylish bite in East Hampton, book a table at Nick & Toni’s, Rowdy Hall, Fresno and The Palm, or pop by Babette’s for avocado toast and Bostwick’s Chowder House for its famous seafood.
Have you been to East Hampton? Which is your favourite town or village in The Hamptons?
