Tirage Champagne et Plats is a new spot in The City where the light bites are just as elegant as the bubbles.
Set across two floors, the dimly-lit Champagne bar has a slick, urban-luxe feel with exposed brick walls, parquet flooring and plenty of high tables, leather banquettes and bar seating.
The concept of Tirage is pairing interesting Champagnes and sparkling wines with inventive light bites, sharing plates and tasting menus. Head chef Alasdair Fraser (The Abingdon) oversees the kitchen while the menus have been created under the direction of Michelin starred restaurateur David Moore (Pied a Terre, L’Autre Pied and Pieds Nus).
Tirage uses an enomatic wine dispenser to offer a number of sparkling wines by the glass, making it easier for guests to try a range of wines without ordering a whole bottle.
Perrier-Jouët is the bar’s signature brand, with a glass of Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut NV priced at £11. There are many other Champagnes available from smaller houses such as Huré Frères and Alfred Gratien, and the most rare bottle available is the Salon “Le Mesnil” 1985 Blanc de Blancs, priced at an eye-watering £1600.
On the opening night, we were served Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut NV Champagne in engraved Tirage Champagne glasses.
Tirage’s small plates were made into canapes such as Cornish Scallop Ceviche with caramelised Jerusalem artichoke puree, prosciutto powder, kaffir lime, pomegranate and sorrel flower reduction and Vanilla Cured Irish Organic Salmon with pickled cucumbers, capers, salmon caviar, wholemeal crisps and lemon.
I particularly enjoyed the Pan Fried Seabass with Asian-scented seed crust, white crab emulsion, broccoli and curry oil and the Pulled Blythburg Free Range Pork Shoulder with sweet pickled Bramley apple compote and coriander crisps.
Unlike many Champagne bars, Tirage is open for breakfast, serving dishes such as Eggs Benedict and French Toast, a hearty Tirage English Breakfast or an ultra-indulgent Champagne Breakfast.
Tirage Champagne et Plats will undoubtedly attract a professional City crowd and is a great choice for an after-work treat, celebrating with colleagues or impressing on a date.
