An Organic Facial with Abigail James

October 29, 2012 by

There are few beauty indulgences that I enjoy more than a facial, so I was excited to have an appointment with Abigail James, the internationally-renowned superfacialist and holistic therapist.

Abigail’s natural, holistic approach and gentle, healing touch has made her a firm favourite among beauty insiders and celebrities, however, she is far too discreet and professional to divulge names.  Her philosophy is all about balance – using the right organic products for your skin, regular facial treatments and a commitment to inner health.

Abigail lives in the Cotswolds and travels to London each week for appointments, so my facial took place in a beautiful, soothing suite at Sanctum Soho Hotel.

Before beginning my facial, Abigail conducted an in-depth consultation, asking questions about my skin, beauty regime, general health, food intake and stress levels.  I was also asked what I wanted to achieve from the facial, which can sometimes be difficult to answer, but I felt confident that Abigail would advise on exactly what my skin needed.

Abigail has a warm, open and energetic manner, making me feel at ease and able to express my skin concerns and requirements.  She designed a bespoke facial specifically to detoxify the skin, promote lymphatic drainage and reduce puffiness in the skin.

She began with a thorough three step cleanse using products by American organic brand, Dr Alkaitis.  This was followed by a light exfoliation and the Dr Alkaitis Universal Mask, which Abigail mixed with milk and honey for a luxurious, natural treatment.

The massage part of the facial included relaxing craniosacral work, which I always enjoy, and very gentle rhythmic massage around special points and the contours of my face.  I was told that this technique of pressing the skin repeatedly and approaching the layers like delicate silk threads can be more effective than more rigorous massage.

After my facial, Abigail recommended a few changes to my beauty regime such as incorporating hot flannels and taking a daily vitamin supplement for my skin.  I was given some wonderful skincare goodies to take away – a Dr Alkaitis Travel Kit, a Live Native Oil Cleansing Balm and an OSKIA Renaissance Mask.

The Dr Alkaitis products are very gentle and left my skin feeling comfortable without stripping any natural oils.  The Live Native Oil Cleansing Balm is rich and a pleasure to use, packed with living ingredients.  One of my favourites was the OSKIA Renaissance Mask, which brightens and resurfaces the skin using fruit enzymes – it looks and feels ultra luxurious.

I left the treatment room feeling calm, relaxed and nourished.  The next day my skin felt more radiant and manageable and it certainly helped keep away my usual skin stresses for a lot longer.  I imagine with regular long-term treatments the effects would be significant.

Abigail James has a unique, results-driven approach to well-being and her healing hands can do wonders for the skin.  She has also recently designed the treatment menu for Grace Belgravia.
