Breakfast Your Way at The Big Chill House

August 28, 2011 by

Mention The Big Chill and the thoughts that come to mind are of DJ sets, the blissed out festival and nights out with friends, rather than breakfast.

However, The Big Chill House on Pentonville Road has a cracking breakfast menu and their philosophy is to serve up ‘breakfast your way’.  Whether its a quick Boiled Egg with Soldiers before hopping on the Eurostar, using the free WIFI to catch up on emails over French Toast or a weekend lazy brunch on the roof terrace with a restorative Full English.

I was kindly given a card for me and a guest to have breakfast on five occasions to try dishes across the menu.  We went down this weekend for an early afternoon brunch with the intention of sitting on the roof terrace, but the sketchy weather meant we have to leave that until next time.

The Big Chill House has a really diverse clientele at this time of day, made up of travellers fresh from Kings Cross or the Eurostar, pretty indie girls, lads on the lash, business folk and hungry locals.

The staff are reaaalllly chilled – friendly, but extremely chilled, like it says on the door.  Don’t expect a Wetherspoons-style fast turnaround, as they’ll take their time, unless perhaps you mention that you’re running to a tight schedule.

We both tried the Full English – Fried, poached or scrambled eggs on two English muffins, Oak-smoked dry cured streaky bacon, a Lincolnshire sausage, pan-roasted wild and button mushrooms, roasted tomato and parsley-topped Heinz baked beans (£7.50).

The breakfast was exceptionally good and made using high quality ingredients.  The poached eggs were garnished with paprika and the muffins made a nice change for toast.  There was lots of smoked bacon and even though we asked for no tomato, our plates were generously filled.

So, that’s one down and four breakfasts to go.  The Rosti or French Toast could be the next choice…I’ll update with the dishes as we try them.

The Big Chill House have kindly given Cherie City a Breakfast Your Way card to give away, so one lucky reader can take a pal and enjoy five lovely breakfasts on the house.

The above pic is my dream breakfast. I live in Oklahoma city, OK In the US. I will be traveling to London on October the 6th. This will be the first time traveling out of the US. I have always wanted to go to London and now that is happening. I am insanely excited! I love food and want to eat where the locals eat and have a traditional London breakfast and post it on my blog!
