Roberto Cavalli & Just Cavalli Autumn/Winter 2011

April 26, 2011 by

This year Roberto Cavalli celebrates 41 years in fashion and fittingly, his inspiration for the Autumn/Winter 11 collection came from within, revisiting some of his ‘greatest moments’

At the recent Autumn/Winter press day, the mainline collection featured stunning metallic leather, animal print, suede fringing and the most exquisite silk chiffon embellished sheer skinny trousers (‘leggings’ just don’t do them justice).

My favourite piece was a 1930s-inspired full-length silk dress with a floral pattern in velvet devore, body-shaping lines, knife pleats and a gilded, spun-gold inner layer.

The Roberto Cavalli Underwear collecion is typically opulent, vibrant and seductive.  The reversable silk leopard print and burnt orange dressing gown with purple lace trim just begs to be worn poolside on the Costa Smerelda.

As a self-confessed addict of healed loafers and brogues, the collection of Roberto Cavalli heeled tassle loafers in espresso and gold coin-embellished platforms are just impossible to resist.

Tassles also make an appearance on tan pony skin ankle boots and chocolate brown calf-length leather lace-up boots.

Just Cavalli is a more romantic, innocent and girly affair with a nod to the 1970s.

I’ve always thought that the ‘Cavalli girl’ was as far away from my style as possible, but there seems to be a playful Italian kookiness to the Autumn/Winter 2011 collection.

Whimsical floral, cherry and berry prints featuring the Just Cavalli signature form the core of all the looks, which evoke the doe-eyed innocence of the Biba days mixed with that geeky sexiness that the Italians do so well.

The highlights of the collection include dreamy palazzo pants, slouchy blouses with contrasting collars or oversize appliqué hearts, dresses with patchwork detail, sequin bib shirts, billowing playsuits and prim shirt dresses.

Just Cavalli shoes are equally covetable with fuschia studded loafers, sequin-covered tassle ankle-ties and squiggly suede and metallic leather shoes – all with curvy, eccentric heels.

I feel somewhat evangelical about next season’s Just Cavalli collection and am hoping to up my happiness levels with those adorable cherry prints for Autumn/Winter 2011.  If only life could be a kaleidoscope of Just Cavalli prints…

Are you loving the uber-cute Just Cavalli collection, or are you more of a gilded Roberto Cavalli girl?  Do you share the love for high platform loafers?
